The Right Way to Follow Up on Cold Emails
Most responses to cold emails don’t come from the first email—they come from follow-ups. A good follow-up strategy can make all the difference in getting replies.
The best approach is to space out follow-ups and use different angles each time. Instead of just saying, “Hey, following up,” offer something new. If your first email offers a call, the second could share a case study, the third could provide a helpful resource, and the fourth could be a light check-in.
You don’t need to follow up too many times. Two to five follow-ups are usually enough. Some so-called email gurus suggest sending 10 or more, but that’s more likely to annoy people than get results. Spacing out follow-ups keeps them from feeling like spam.
Even in follow-ups, keep things conversational and add value. Don’t just push for a call—offer something useful, so even if someone isn’t ready to talk, they might engage later.
